FAQ: Welcome

HOW IS A THERAPIST CHOSEN?

You ultimately chose your own therapist.  When you call our office you will be assigned a therapist who we believe has the best experience, training and expertise for you to get the maximum benefit from your therapy experience.  However, your input and participation in choosing that therapist is extremely important.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

Summit Psychological Services currently participates as an in-network provider

   for:

  • The Government sponsored Medicare program

  • Some Horizon BCBS policies – please call our front desk to confirm which plans

  • NJ Carpenters Fund

Please ask your insurance plan whether you're eligible for reimbursement and whether you need prior authorization before beginning psychotherapy.  SPS is aware that health insurance can be confusing. We're happy to answer your general insurance questions and to provide any statements you need in order to be reimbursed.

CAN I USE OUT OF NETWORK BENEFITS?

If we do not participate with your healthcare provider plan, you will be responsible for the full cost of the services provided.   It is your responsibility to call your Insurance carrier to verify your Out-of-Network benefits coverage for Outpatient Mental Health services and how to submit your monthly SPS billing statement for Out-of-Network reimbursement.

SPS is aware that healthcare insurance can be confusing. Prior to your first visit, we recommend calling our front desk to discuss fees, general insurance questions and billing practices with you.

HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?

Therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the therapist and the service.  Group Psychotherapy is usually 60 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on the group.

HOW DO I KNOW IF EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?

If you are interested in the Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Program you will be able to talk about your goals and needs with Dr. Johnson, who will help you assess if the Horse Powered Growth & Learning Program is going to help you.
