Individual therapy with one of our experts is the most popularly used service at SPS and we work hard to match you with the right therapist.

A trusting, relationship with a therapist is a safe space for exploration and nonjudgmental feedback. It’s also a unique and wonderful opportunity to work out relationship issues. Most of all, it’s a powerful vehicle for healing, growth, and change.

The therapists at Summit Psychological Services (SPS) are experts in a wide range of psychological and mental health issues that can be treated in individual therapy (also called individual counseling).

Our warm and friendly environment welcomes children and teens. Our therapists are highly skilled at connecting with this age group.

In child and adolescent therapy (also called child and adolescent counseling), a child or teen can find a trusted friend, mentor, and sounding board. Whether verbally or through play, the child can open up and be heard in ways that may feel uncomfortable or unsafe outside the therapist’s office.

At Summit Psychological Services (SPS), kids of all ages (starting at 3)  can get the help and guidance they need.

Couple therapy (also called couple counseling and relationship counseling) can be of tremendous benefit to all couples.  It is so important to take time out to mend, heal or improve relationships.

 Family therapy (also called family counseling) can make all the difference for families locked into unhealthy roles and patterns. It can improve family dynamics and communication, reduce conflict, and transform dysfunction and tension into support, laughter, and love.

SPS therapists use the power of bringing people together in a group to support growth and change.

Empathy, encouragement, insight, information, camaraderie, and community: groups offer all this and more. Groups can relieve feelings of isolation and provide essential support as you confront personal challenges and make life changes.

Groups at Summit Psychological Services (SPS) are open to all. You don’t need to be in therapy at SPS—or anywhere else. Of course, any SPS therapist or non-SPS therapist may refer you to one of our groups.

Children, teens and adults can all be evaluated by an SPS expert. Whatever your question we are here to help you answer it.

Testing can help therapists accurately diagnose—and determine the optimal treatment for—various issues affecting children and adults.

If you are experiencing insomnia, or coping with problematic sleep, we have psychologists who are trained in some of the most effective treatments for sleep difficulties.

The American College of Physicians recommended that a specific protocol, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - Insomnia (CBT-I ) as the front-line treatment for insomnia.  CBT-I is a short term psychotherapeutic treatment which does not involve medication, and has been demonstrated in numerous research studies to achieve long lasting effectiveness.

If you want to quit smoking and stay quit, our team has some of the most advanced tools for helping you succeed.

QuitSmart TM is a state-of-the-art smoking-cessation program, validated by more than 20 years of research and thousands of ex-smokers. It can be taught during individual sessions or to goups such as organizations, companies, and families. QuitSmart TM was created by the founding director of the Duke Medical Center Stop Smoking Clinic, who certified SPS Directors Jeffrey Kahn, PhD, CGP, DABPS and Alison Johnson, PsyD as QuitSmart TM Instructors.

For more than 25 years, Drs. Kahn and Johnson have been helping people free themselves from nicotine and other addictions.
