Grounded in psychodynamic work, Dr. Urman draws from a toolbox of approaches based on the client’s age and issues. She has extensive experience in treating 3- to 80-plus-year-olds with a vast array of common and unusual disorders in inpatient, outpatient, school-based, and day treatment settings. Dr. Urman has trained in formal programs in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), parent-child interaction therapy, and family therapy. She has also developed and co-led parenting workshops. She has received grants and awards in recognition of her research on self-esteem and emotional well-being. During her years on a crisis team, she developed expertise in behavioral management, aggression, and self-injury.
